I’m going to UMES for PT School!

Here’s a quick breakdown of my application process:

  • I applied to 10 schools, 3 in California and 7 out of state
  • I got interview invites to 5 schools, interviewed at 2, and accepted at 2 (one that I interviewed at, and one that didn’t require an interview)
  • I declined 3 out of state interviews because their tuition was much higher, and I was already accepted at UMES
  • I eventually got around to updating my letter writers with what school I’m attending

I’m not too upset that I didn’t get into CSU Fresno. The school is closer, the campus is a bit nicer and there’s much more to do in the city, but it’ll be good to get away from California, at least for a few years. I’ve never explored the east coast much, so I’m really excited about that! Also, UMES is has the same out of state tuition as CSU Fresno’s in state tuition, so it’ll only be a little more expensive to live there.

I was back and forth on deciding whether I wanted roommates or not. I had my heart set on living with myself, so I don’t have to worry about not getting along with any future roommates, but decided to find roommates anyways. It took a lot of stress off my mind, as they were able to find a house to rent and find free furniture. They’re currently 1st year students at the school, so they’ll have books for me to use and they’ll have good advice about classes.

I’m currently doing research on plane flights. My mom is going to fly there for a couple of days to help me settle in and buy everything I need, since I can’t bring all the apartment things that I currently own. I’m upset that my paintings will most likely stay in California, but now I’ll have a completely blank slate of a bedroom and bathroom to decorate. I’m so excited to decorate, you don’t even know. All of my free time has been spent on Pinterest and Amazon for ideas. I feel like I’m all over the place, researching cars that I’ll want to buy and kitchen appliances that I’ll want to use and what gym I’ll want to get a membership at. Even though none of this matters for a few more months, I can’t help myself from thinking about it constantly. My life is going to change a lot soon, and I can’t wait for it to start!

Hi Congratulations on your acceptance to UMES!
I have a quick question for you in regards to applying there. For the supplemental application, did you have to resubmit your letters of recommendation and write an additional essay for it even though its already required on PTCAS?

      Thanks so much!
As far as I remember, I did not send them any letters directly, but I do believe I wrote a short paragraph and sent that on the additional application (when I applied, there was only a small space at the bottom of the form that I sent in).

However, things change from year to year, so you should definitely call or email admissions to make sure. No need to not get accepted because of a misunderstanding. Best of luck applying and I hope to see you next year!! 🙂
